RACE FOR LIFE

Me and my friend Sera have decided to take part in the Race for Life in Cardiff! Not only is it for a great cause but it is one very close to my heart. Cancer Research is the leading Cancer Charity in the UK, and through fundraises like this one, hopefully one day they will find a cure for it!

I completed the 10k run two years ago, but I trained and ran by myself, so I’m excited this year to have a training and running partner!

The 10k two years ago was my first organised run, I did the ST Davids one last year and then will be doing the Race for Life again this summer. I enjoy running but never seem to get pass the 10k mark, (Probably because I am being lazy) at some point I would like to do a half marathon, (Dont think I could do a full marathon, I don’t like the thought of running for that long).

I really enjoyed doing the Race for Life as it is most definitely a FUN run, (Although you obviously get all different ability runners) everyone is in PINK, most people are in fancy dress, and all ages are doing it, (Just to add, this is a womens only run).

The best thing about this run is that you can walk, or run it! So there’s no pressure!

I would like to beat my previous time, but  I am in it to raise money for the cause, so will be happy just to finish it.

I decided to blog about the run, to try encourage others to do it, potentially gain some new sponsors, track my progress, and hopefully get some useful tips from my readers.

So if you could spare any money, (Every little helps) it would be much appreciated, you can do this on our Karis and Sera Race for Life Page

TRAINING:

We signed up for the run a while back, but I have only just started training for it, as it hit the 12 week mark. As well as fundraising for the cause, I signed up to help improve my health, fitness and lose some fat.

They have some training programmes on the Race for Life site, which I have posted links to below.

Beginners Running 10k Plan

Intermediate Runners 10k Plan

I have been given a training programme by my boyfriends mum, (Who is really into her running) of which is designed for the Half Marathon in September, so I have tweaked it a little, but my aim is to try to stick to it as much as possible.

WEEK 1:

My aim for my first week of training, was just to get back in to the gym, as I had been out of it for a month! (Lazy and expensive) I managed to go in three times, so I was happy.

WEEK 2:

I completed a two-mile run (Averaging at 11.5 minutes), followed by some weights in the gym on the Monday and Wednesday, I then went to Sera’s on the Friday night and we went for a long walk/run across the beach on the Saturday.

WEEK 3:

I had been given the training programme, so my aim was to complete three short runs and one long run this week.

I completed two 2 mile runs, (Including using the gym weights, again averaging at 11.5 minutes). My excuse (As stupid as it is) was that I went home for the weekend so instead of training I went out with friends, (Poor excuse I know).

I am not trying to think of it as if I have failed, I am looking at it as I have still made progress in my training, but to work harder in week 4.

Hopefully when I put a follow-up post, my average mile time will of come down, and I will actually be doing 3 to 4 runs a week.

At the moment I am lacking motivation after work, so I don’t spend as much time exercising as I should, but that is what weekends are for!

ARE YOU DOING THE RACE FOR LIFE THIS SUMMER?

ARE YOU A RUNNER? WHAT TIPS DO YOU HAVE FOR ME?

P.S If you have taken the time to sponsor us THANK YOU VERY MUCH!

Lots of Love,

KB xx
