Puli avalAfter I posted batata poha, I got a request for puli aval.I thought it was such a simple recipe and never had an idea about posting it here,but since it has been requested ,here it is today :). Puli aval means beaten rice with tamarind,It is a super tangy preparation with beaten rice,often eaten for breakfast and comes together in a jiffy.It hardly takes 10 minutes to prepare but you can keep eating this dish,as with any aval recipe,this is low in fat,keeps you full for long time and good for health.Here is the recipe for puli aval

Star ingredients: Aval and tamarind
Time:10 minutes
Serves:3
Puli aval
Ingredients:
1 1/2 cup aval(thick beaten rice)
1 cup thin tamarind water(Extracted from small lemon size tamarind)
1 tablespoon peanuts
1 tablespoon channa dal
1/2 tablespoon urad dal
1/2 teaspoon mustard
10-12 curry leaves
2 dried red chillies
1/2 teaspoon asafoetida
Salt
Oil to temper
Method:
1.Wash aval under running water 2-3 times.Set aside
2.In a kadai add little oil and temper with mustard,red chillies,urad dal and asafoetida.Add channa dal,peanuts,curry leaves and fry for 3-4 minutes.
Puli aval3.Add the aval,saute once and add tamarind water 1/4 cup at a time.Add the next 1/4 cup pnce absorbed by aval.Add salt and mix well.
Puli aval4.Remove from flame and serve hot.
Puli avalNotes:
1.If you add the whole cup of tamarind water at a stretch  aval may turn mushy.It largely depends on the type of aval you use.
2.I generally use the second extracted tamarind water(used for rasam) in this recipe
