One of my best friends just celebrated her 30th birthday in sunny California. The East Coast crew flew to the West Coast to surprise her with a Tropical Prom Party in Palm Springs. We spent the weekend lounging by the pool with Palm Breeze alcohol spritzers before crowning the birthday girl Prom Queen.
Prior to the trip, my girlfriends came over to create a custom garland and experiment with a signature drink for the birthday bash. We came up with an ombre frozen margarita made with Palm Breeze and pineapples- a perfectly refreshing drink for the hot desert. Dust off your blender and check out the recipe below!
What You'll Need (serves 4-6):- 1 can Strawberry Pineapple Palm Breeze
- 1 can Pineapple Mandarin Orange Palm Breeze
- 2 cups of frozen pineapple chunks
- 2 shots of clear tequila
- 2 cups of ice
- Red food coloring
- Red sanding sugar for garnish (optional)
- Sliced Kiwis for garnish (optional)
- Gently rub a kiwi slice around the rim of a mason jar. Pour red sanding sugar onto a plate and dip the glass into the sugar so that it sticks to the rim.
- Pour 1 can of Strawberry Pineapple Palm Breeze into a blender with 1 cup of ice, 1 cup of frozen pineapples, and 1 shot of clear tequila. Add 8 drops of red food coloring and blend on high until smooth. Evenly distribute the mixture into mason jars no more than half way up the glass.
- Rinse the blender and pour in 1 can of Pineapple Mandarin Orange Palm Breeze with 1 cup of ice, 1 cup of frozen pineapples, and 1 shot of tequila. Blend on high until smooth, then pour on top of the red mixture.
- Gently stir with a straw or spoon until an ombre affect occurs. Garnish with a kiwi slice and enjoy!
As we sipped our Palm Breeze margaritas, we moved onto the next project: a tropical themed garland. Gold and magenta kept the it glamorous while the bailing twine and silk banana leaves lent a rustic feel. The birthday girl joked this was her 9th 21st birthday instead of her 30th, so we played along. Here's how it's done:
- Pink construction paper.
- Silk banana leaves.
- Gold glitter sticker letters.
- Bailing twine.
- Scissors.
- Hole puncher.
- Pencil.
- Search the internet for a flamingo silhouette and a hibiscus flower. Print them to scale and cut them out; these will be your stencils. Using a pencil, lightly trace them on pink construction paper and cut them out.
- Remove the sticker letters from their packaging and adhere them to the front of the banana leaves.
- Use a hole puncher to punch two holes into each banana leaf, hibiscus flower, and flamingos.
- Lay out the garland on the floor so you have the correct order. I placed two flamingos facing inward on the ends and alternated banana leaves and hibiscus flowers. Then, gently string the bailing twine through the holes leaving 6-12 inches of twine at each end of the garland for hanging.
This DIY project was super easy and I loved the outcome! I purchased everything online: sticker letters, construction paper, silk banana leaves, and bailing twine.
