3rd May, Mumbai: .PRESS, a domain extension for journalists and media, has partnered with Reporters Sans Frontieres (RSF), an international non-profit, to support the cause of free journalism on the occasion of World Press Freedom Day, celebrated on 3rd May each year. .PRESS has pledged a portion of its revenue for the month of May 2017 towards RSF’s  initiatives in defending the freedom of the press.

Since its launch in 2014, .PRESS has been associated with the cause of promoting freedom of the press.

.PRESS had partnered with International Centre for Journalists in 2015 and with Society of Professional Journalists in 2016. Over these two years, .PRESS has executed high visibility campaigns in support of free journalism and reached out to over 50,000 journalists worldwide.   This year, .PRESS has partnered with RSF, which has an active presence in 150 countries through local correspondents who work through close collaborations with press freedom groups. This year’s campaign by .PRESS is live on www.freethe.press.

Speaking about the campaign, Parag Barhate, Category Manager, .PRESS domains, said, “Today, assaults on press are no longer limited to oppression and brutality. Writers are fighting digital stalking, cyber bullying, social media trolling, as well as malware and hacking assaults on their sites. We believe that more and more organizations should come together to defend the freedom of the press and work towards creating a more secure space for journalists.”

.PRESS was launched in September 2014 by Radix with the objective of creating a differentiated namespace for journalists on the web. Through .PRESS Domains, Radix has always supported the journalism community put their stories out on the internet. In response, .PRESS has seen great adoption from the press community; to name a few: Freedom of the Press Foundation, presided by Edward Snowden, uses .PRESS for its website, www.freedom.press.

Some other examples include www.safety.press, an initiative by the Committee to Protect Journalists aimed at security for journalists, www.bbc.press, BBC’s press interaction page and www.spj.press, the largest association of professional journalists in the US.
