Potterton Performa 24 Flame Failure.

By Futli @futlim

Boiler was in West End Lane Pinner, Middlesex. The boiler was previously repaired by another engineer. I went to help him because boiler was still not working after he replaced the PCB ( printed circuit board), overheat stat, primary sensor and the diverted valve. No central heating or hot water is produced. So why the hack the boiler is showing the yellow flame on light before it is going to flame failure lockout. Pump and fan is running, can hear the sparking. The funny thing is even when the flame on light is on, I cannot hear the burner on, or the sound of the gas valve opening and closing. ( I am specialising in listening to these sounds..ha ha). If the burner is actually on and then boiler goes to flame failure…then there is a logical explanation, there could be problem of flame sensor or lead., but this is not the case. There are contraindicatory information. I desided to check eveycomponent of the ignition sequence, Fan, APS, PCB, Gas Valve, Electrode, Ignitor, pump, diverter microswitches…PCB M4 voltage test failed. Should be between 20 to 140VDC…I’ve got 6VDC…cammon your reconditioned PCB is faulty… Also the reconditioned diverter valve was not working properly. I never have faith in the reconditioned parts…Maybe they are last option when you cannot find the original brand new parts. But in this case the engineer should have gone for a brand new part.. because potterton new parts are very reasonably priced and available at most merchants. My favorite
