Here is a quick tutorial on how to create your own bunch of pompom flowers with wool. They look pretty bunched together in their own vase or placed between real flowers. When I attempted this tutorial I made my pompoms a slightly different way, I have since realised it is probably much better to do it the way I describe below. The result will be a tighter pompom and a more authentic looking flower.
For the pompoms, cut 2 identical discs from a piece of card, 5cm in diameter with a 2cm diameter hole in the centre.
Align the discs and wind wool round them, through the hole, round the edge and back through the hole again, working continuously until they are completely covered and you can hardly wind any more through the centre.
Snip the wool along the outer edge of the discs. Pull the discs apart slightly.
Cut two 20cm lengths of leftover wool. Wind them between the discs and knot tightly to secure the wool. Remove the discs.
Now I used florists wire for the stems and tightly wrapped one end through and around the knot on the pompom. However, I think it would be better to take a twig, cover the top with PVA glue and push it into the pompom. Far more authentic, just wish I’d thought of that sooner.
