Poll Shows Carson Could Beat Trump In A Two-Man Race
These charts were made from a new Monmouth University Poll of nationwide Republican voters. They questioned 366 Republican voters between August 31st and September 2nd, and the survey has a margin of error of 5.1 points.
The top chart shows who the voters prefer to be their nominee. Donald Trump finishes first with 30%, and Ben Carson was second with 18%. They were the only candidates in double-digits. Bush and Cruz tied for third at 8%, and no other candidate could top 5%.
But the really interesting part of the poll is when they put the other candidates in a head-to-head match-up with Donald Trump. We know that eventually most of the candidates will drop out, and we'll be left with a couple of candidates. What will happen if Trump is one of the two, and how well would he do matched up against the other various candidates.
It turns out that, at least right now, Trump would defeat all the other candidates by a substantial margin in a head-to-head match-up -- all but one. That one is Ben Carson (who is currently in second place, so that match-up could happen). Carson would defeat Trump by 19 points (55% to 36%).
