Pink Lipsticks to Beat the Blues

By Rashi Ravi Ganguly @sincerelylazy
Pink Lipsticks to Beat the BluesSo this is the first post under the #100daysofsummer series, and what better way to flag-off the march than with one of my favorite things- lipsticks! Till about a couple years back lipsticks used to be things that I only admired on others, never on myself. I would buy maybe one lipstick in 3-4 years, apply it, look in the mirror, make a face, wipe it off and stash away the tube only to bring it out for ogling, never applying. What to do, the stuff made my face look so, well, made-up! Never mind that I grew up watching my Mom and aunts apply their favorite maroon everytime they went out, not to mention that my two younger sisters had a veritable stash and regularly reprimanded me over my bare lips at outings. I was just a plain simple lip-balm girl.
But then I went through a rather low phase in my life and desperately needed some color to brighten the shadows that seemed to be all around. And as shallow as it sounds, lipsticks came to my rescue. Just a swipe and the dullest day seemed to have a rainbow on the far horizon. Suddenly my face didn't look made-up, just more polished and well-put-together, and it also helped that people started raining compliments on me all the time! A dash of color on my lips made me look and feel confident even on days that seemed to drag me down into abysmal despair, so yes, I am a convert for life. All those days are past but my love affair with lipstick continues!
Pink Lipsticks to Beat the Blues
To come back to the present, since summer is already here I am happily back to sporting the luscious pinks and corals on my lips, and I thought of sharing my favorite pink lipsticks today. These are my most used ones, purely because they strike the perfect balance in terms of color and texture, and I'd happily recommend these to lipstick novices and fanatics alike. Enjoy the pics! :)

1.Deborah Milano Shine Creator SPF15 #8: A lovely sheer-to-medium coverage fuchsia.2.MAC Lustering: A luscious super-glossy semi-sheer hot-pink. A more wearable version of MAC Girl About Town. Simply beautiful!3.Inglot #234: Satin finish deep bright watermelon pink. A wearable dupe of MAC Impassioned.4.Revlon Cherries in the Snow: A classic since 1950! Beautiful beautiful raspberry pink... makes even a bare face look hot!5. Lakme Enrich Satins #356: A deep satiny red-pink, closely resembles MAC Love Goddess. Looks amazing blotted down to a matte finish. Also, lips look plumper with this on somehow.6.Maybelline Moisture Extreme Coral Pink: The only yellow pink in this list, easy to wear on a daily basis..7. Avon Smooth Minerals Cranberry: My absolute favorite in the bunch! Super-hydrating, gel-finish, balm-like semi-translucent berry pink, its PERFECT for all occasions and all seasons if you want to sport a subtle and classy look. LOVE it!8. MAC Mehr: The only matte in this list, and such a lovely color. Its a dirty pink, translates to a mauvey pink that looks equally good on a bare face and with full-on smokey/kohl-ed eyes.9.Loreal Paris Rouge Caress Aphrodite Scarlet: A gift from my husband and my latest crush! I wear it everywhere, even at home, its THAT beautiful! Weightless and balmy texture, sheer-to-medium coverage, very comfortable.
And now for some lip-swatches:Pink Lipsticks to Beat the BluesPlease excuse the shoddy application but these were done very early in the morning with the maid and the husband clamouring for my attention, but the colours are accurate as far as how they translate onto my lips. Also, the Deborah Milano lipstick is wrongly labelled here as #12, whereas it is actually #8; I noticed it too late to change.
The 10th place on this list is empty, but something tells me its going to be a Dior. VERY excited! :D
In case anyone reading this is interested in further insights on specific colours, do let me know in the comments. It'll motivate this lazybirdie to take an effort and post proper FOTDs and reviews. Tee hee :D
