Picture This: The DyingTecumseh

Before the museum opened to the public, staff moved our sculpture, The Dying Tecumseh by Ferdinand Pettrich, from its usual home in American Art's permanent collection galleries in the east wing of the second floor, to be part of 1812: A Nation Emerges, an exhibition at our sister museum, the National Portrait Gallery. The show is open and runs through January 27, 2013.

The sculpture weighs more than 3,000 lbs, so moving it was a tricky task that required many people! Here, they begin to wheel it to its new location in the museums' shared building. See more photos from this mammoth task on Flickr.
