Photoessay: The Multifaceted Streetscapes of Pondicherry

By Rashmi Gopal Rao

While much has been said and written about the dichotomy that exists in Pondicherry, this is a city that never fails to surprise.  Inspite of visiting it several times over, Pondy, as it is also fondly known, always throws up new hidden secrets for me.  The union territory that was a French colony till 1954, is indeed a potpourri of many different worlds.  Just walking down the streets of Puducherry, as it is now known, treats you to a kaleidoscope of colours and cultures.  Here are some random captures of the ever photogenic streets of Pondy.

Just like the French quarter, the Tamil quarter too is just as intriguing and has a distinct rustic and antiquated charm.
