Did that just happen? Did Thanksgiving really fly by us?

I made it to Florida and back with all appendages – chipped nails, although equally as important, do not count as a losing a limb. Five days is a short amount of time, but I was able to pack a lot of me-made clothes and interesting memories into that short span. On my list of stops was West Palm Beach, Ft. Lauderdale Beach, and Dania Beach, where I soaked up not the sun, but the heat and humidity. It was great, minus the pimple. Thanksgiving dinner was small – only my Brady Bunch family attended and we ate outside by the pool. On Saturday, I visited my old stomping grounds, the tailor shop, where Mishka was up to her usual old ways. A customer was trying to squeeze into a dress that was too small for her, and she replied “Well, if you didn’t have such a big butt, maybe you’d fit into it.” When I asked her about her parents during an interview (next Portrait of a Seamstress?), she said, “My mother was an angel and my father was a son of a bitch.” Just as brass and crude as she can be, she also has a brobdingnagian-sized heart. Similar to my grandmother, she offered me more chocolate, cookies, and treats than my stomach could handle in an hour, and she gave me one of her warmest scarves so that I could brave the Philadelphia cold when I returned. I tell ya, what a woman she is!

I also squeezed in time to photograph a project that didn’t turn out as I had hoped (more on that tomorrow), buy a Christmas tree with my dad (we got a big, fat one!), and visit a local home that is known for its holiday lights. It’s hard to believe that in just 3 weeks, I’ll be back in the sunshine state. And next time, I’ll come bearing gifts, some me-made.
