Pantelligent Makes Sure You Never Burn Your Food Again

It’s no secret how far technology has come in making our lives easier, with many of us now relying on smartphones for everything from communicating with our long lost relatives to keeping track of everything we need to do. For those of us who spend most of our days in the kitchen, the growing role of smartphones could include more than just meal planning, as they could very well be used to control all the appliances we need soon.

Gaming Realms, the company behind mobile gaming website Pocket Fruity, has noted that “There were an estimated 1 billion Smartphone users at the end of 2012, representing 17% of total mobile users”. This number has nearly doubled in the past two years, and many people now consider the smartphone a tool rather than a device for recreation. A few years ago, we were introduced to the iGrill, a device with a dedicated app that helped you keep track of the things on the grill. By August next year, we’ll have a tool that makes cooking easier, and ensures you’ll never burn your food again.

Pantelligent is the small frying pan we all wish had been in our own starter kits when we’d first started cooking. Using integrated heat sensors, the pan-and-app combo tells you exactly when you need to flip whatever you’re cooking, whether it’s burning, or how much more time your food needs to cook through. Of course, the app still needs a bit of help from the user, asking for the thickness of the food you’re cooking, and what exactly is being cooked.

“Pantelligent helps you cook anything you can cook with a regular frying pan, only smarter, and perfect every time,” writes the team behind the project – four engineers from MIT. They’re currently seeking funding on Kickstarter, but hope to be able to roll out the product by August 2015.
