1. WHY YOUR BABY NEEDS FAT

Between birth and 3 years old, a baby multiplies up to five times its weight! Tremendous growth during which he built his skin cells, organs, hair or brain. However, the walls of these cells are mainly composed of lipids.

We thus understand the importance of these nutrients in the growth. In addition, lipids exert a specific role in the development of the nervous system (brain, spinal cord, nerves). They also provide cholesterol, essential to the production of hormones, and vitamins A, D, E, K, essential to the proper functioning of the body (immune system, growth)

2. LIPID YES, BUT NOT JUST ANY

So if we hear a lot about obesity growing children, no question of demonizing fat, as you tend to do when it comes to our own plate … Prefer those, sources of vitamins and essential fatty acids, essential for psychomotor and intellectual development: olive oil, canola and walnut, hazelnut butter in mashed potatoes or soup, dairy (small-Swiss cheese, yogurt …).

Do not be tempted to give lightweight  : baby whole milk right! From 6-7 months, it will also start eating animal protein, lipid vectors: fatty fish, eggs (choose organic or free-range chickens), meat (white or red defatted).
Meanwhile, watch intakes of omega-6, which consumed in excess, in relation to omega-3. This imbalance seems to be one of the factors explaining the increase in childhood obesity. Just simply reduce the consumption of the main vectors: sunflower and grapeseed, but especially industrial preparations and cakes trade.

3. EMPHASIZE THE “HOME COOKED”

Refuse products with labels announcing “palm oil”, “hydrogenated vegetable fat” (or “partially hydrogenated”). A simple homemade cookie, made with butter and eggs, will always be better. If you still buy cakes commerce, compare compositions: you will succeed in finding, made with butter or canola oil.Choose those!

4. FAT: WHAT ARE WE DOING IN PRACTICE?

0 to 6 months ,

Essential fatty acids are provided by breast milk or infant formula specialized.

6 months to 1 year

1 knob of butter or 1 tsp. to c. oil per plate + 10 to 20 grams of meat, fish or egg alternating + 500 ml milk per day.

1 to 3 years

or 1 knob of butter 2 c. to c. oil + 30 g per serving of meat, fish or egg alternating + 500 ml of milk or dairy products 2-3 per day.
