Over 20 Million Fake Accounts on Twitter Helps Selling Followers Business

Twitter can be used in many different ways. Some use it to connect with friends or fans, while some others use it for promotion. Either way, having a big number of followers always come in handy. These days anyone can get 1000 followers in few seconds because there are a lot of services that sells followers for cash. Although, they doesn’t know that these followers they buy are actually fake accounts.

A couple of Italian security researchers named Andrea Stroppa and Carlo De Micheli have told New York Times that there may be more than 20 million fake accounts on Twitter. Which represents 7% of its’ total user base.

They also says that some online services build these fake accounts to sell them to desperate users in need of more followers. Researchers say that these services sells fake followers at an average of $18 USD per 1000 and $0.5 cents per retweet.

Selling followers seems to be a bigger business than you might have imagined. VentureBeat says that some re-sellers claims to have the ability to create “100,000 fake accounts in five days ”. At least now you don’t have to be jealous of those people who has more followers than you, because most of them are obviously fake.

There are some legitimate ways to get more followers on Twitter. Follow those ways. It takes time. But, It’ll be worth it.
