Original Song Breakdown: Help

Posted on the 06 October 2012 by Floydian42 @Floydian42

This was the second song in my one day EP. It was the first one I tried to write, and honestly the one I'm happiest with. We've all heard of the songs that just fall into your lap, well this is one of them. I laid down a beat that was ultimately removed and just sang the first melody that came to my head. After coming up with the chords to back them, I had a solid verse.
Lyrically this is about a period in my life nearly two years ago where I was the most depressed I'd ever been.  I thought I was on the brink of a terrible loss of someone who I cared for dearly, and there was nothing I could do about it, as she was half way across the world at the time. There was just this feeling of being isolated, completely betrayed and helpless. Of all of things I've ever written, this is the song that I think came closest to how I've ever actually felt.
Musically it's set up as a call and response, which implies it's between two people, but really it was an internal dialog. Me talking to myself, and turning my own advice away. Trying to do all my normal things didn't help me out, and there was nothing I could do about it. That being said, I think I could probably stand to revise some of the lyrics. This song is still a work in progress, especially on some of the production, but if I could ever just get a group together to help back it up for me that'd be sick, and I think it would really shine.
Anyway, I tried keeping this one short. Let me know what you think!
