Online Dating When You’re Older

By Evette Garside @evette77

Let's face it, no one likes the thought of growing old alone without that special person by their side. I'm single myself and I'm 41. Yes my kids are all still young and at home but I know they won't be forever and I do often dread the thought of being an old lady and being on my own.

Back when I was younger and most certainly my parents and grandparents; dating was a whole different thing back then. You see they had to actually meet the person face to face first and then build up the courage to ask them on a date. Most couples met in their local area or at work or at a party back then and arranged dates face to face. No phones, no internet and it was fingers crossed that their date would actually show up.

Fast forward 30 years, and it's now a little bit easier to find a date. See we now have technology to find a date and ask them out. Online dating now seems to replace the old fashioned methods and it seems to work for the majority of people regardless of age. Is this better than the old fashioned way? Well I guess that's a matter of personal preference. I guess in many ways it's much easier to ask someone on a date via a computer or phone than it is face to face.

Online dating when you’re older

However as I well know, dating when your a little older does come with a few more challenges. I'm certainly more wary of people now I'm older due to experience and I'm also more picky when it comes to the type of man I want to date. I am however lucky to look younger than my age so if I'm looking for a date I don't find it too difficult. Unfortunately many people over 40 tend to think they are too old or past it for dating and that no one will want them or may have other issues. Dating again when you're a little older can be scary but can also be lots of fun.

There are many online dating sites out there. But if you're new to dating and over 40 then it's probably best to look at sites who specifically focus on Older dating online as it's very likely you'll find someone not only in your age group but who may also share similar interests to you. I've found these websites really easy to navigate through. You will need to register for an account at first but they seem quite straightforward.

The website "older-dating.com" for instance is specifically an older and senior dating site. This particular online dating site is available in many countries. Once registered you are able to search through profiles of potential dates and matches and can customise your search to specific areas, ages and much more. Once you've found someone you think you may like you can exchange messages to find out a bit more about them and see where it leads to.
