On The Beauty Beat

Lifestyle blogger Susan B. recommends fragrance-free borage lotion for dry skin. Details at une femme d'un certain age.

Can you believe we’re at the end of August already? This year has been flying by.

Drugstore Beauty

We’re heading into a few weeks of hot, arid weather in Southern California. Even with upping my water intake, my skin gets really dry and can start looking lizard-like, as well as feeling itchy and irritated. Karen had recommended this ShiKai Borage lotion, which I was able to find at a local grocery store. It’s very soothing, non-greasy, and lasts all day. Fragrance-free too.

got2b glued styling product

Don’t let the packaging scare you…this “spiking glue” is one of the best styling products I’ve found for my fine, straight hair, and it’s a bargain! I learned about this from Melanie of Bag and a Beret. Just use a pea-sized amount, rub in your hands to warm it up, then run your fingers through your hair. It will feel a little sticky at first but dries quickly, and then you can shape or fluff for more volume. It will hold a style, but also adds lift and texture. Doesn’t look spiky unless you want it to…if so just use more product.

Tested And Approved

Style blogger Susan B. recommends Colleen Rothschild Radiant Cleansing Balm. Details at une femme d'un certain age.

The nice people at Colleen Rothschild sent me some products to try, and as some of my regular products have run out, I’ve been working them into my routine. My favorite so far is this Radiant Cleansing Balm. It comes with a muslin cleaning cloth, which I really like. I also enjoy the fragrance which I find quite soothing. After using, my skin feels clean but not stripped or dry. Colleen Rothschild products contain no parabens. Currently they’re having a promotion, 20% off sitewide with code LABORDAY.

Style blogger Susan B. recommends Makeover Workshop Firming Neck And Throat Creme
My friend Brian has a wonderful company called Makeover Workshop. He teaches makeup techniques to women all over the country, and has created his own line of makeup and skincare products. The Re-Creation Lip Treatment has been a favorite of mine for a couple of years now. A few weeks ago he gave me this Firming Neck & Throat Creme to try, and though I was skeptical, I’ve been using it daily. I have to say, I have noticed a difference. While nothing out of a jar is going to tighten my jaw line or get rid of a wattle, the skin on my neck does look smoother and less puckered. So I’m going to keep using it. Thanks, Brian!
