This weekend's Cowes Race Week in England was marred by a frightening collision between one of the racing yachts and an 870-foot oil tanker whose bow the sailboat attempted to cross. A videocamera filming the race captured the collision. Fortunately injuries were not serious, although two crew were ejected overboard. This is a nightmare example of the importance of following the sailing rules of the road, one of which many sailors reduce to the simple prescription: "Might is right."
