Ocean Dragon

By Prettyandtasty1 @prettyandtasty
As part of our birthday (Yes, we are twins, but we didn't spend it together this year) celebrations this year I wanted to give Ocean Dragon a try, located in Birmingham's China town (Arcadian) on Hurst Street it was very easy to find. I believe that this was previously a Chinese restaurant serving quality Dim sum etc, but is now a Japanese restaurant. I have pretty much been to and tried Birmingham's variety of Japanese restaurants, so it was worth giving this a go. We went for lunch around 12pm and it had just opened, we were the first customers of the day and the waiter kindly served us Green Tea & Miso soup free of charge.

Ocean Dragon

Tofu - Think this was on the special menu?! This was steamed, the tofu had a smooth texture to it but needed a little more seasoning to it.

Ocean Dragon

Toko Yaki (£4.95) - Grilled minced octopus in a ball form, mixed with spring onions and teriyaki sauce. YUM.

Ocean Dragon

Kaisen Platter (£11.50) -  Deep fried croquettes, pumpkin, prawns and soft shell crab. A great option to have when you are dining in a group! Considering it was all deep fried it wasn't dripping with oil at all.

Ocean Dragon

Gyuunuko (£7.20) - Fried Udon noodles with Beef.
I wouldn't say it was extraordinary, but it  plated up well just like you would get from any chinese restaurant. However, there was quite a small amount of Beef, so that was a shame.

Ocean Dragon

Ahiru Bento Box (£14.95) -  A traditional concept of having all fresh dishes in one box. This one contained of king prawn tempura, duck breast cooked in a Japanese plum sauce, steamed rice, salad and miso soup.

Ocean Dragon

Tori Kare (£7.50) - Japanese Curry with chicken cutlet in breadcrumbs. This dish was decent , for me I would of preferred it  to be more spicy.

Ocean Dragon

Sapporo Sashimi (£29.95)  - How mouth watering does this look? It certainly WAS! I love it when dishes are presented nicely. This consisted of 12 pieces of mixed sushi and 12 pieces of mixed sashimi.. mMm my favorite was the Salmon sashimi - soo fresh! and I'm not usually a fan of Tuna sashimi as it can be quite fishy but this was spot on fresh.

Ocean Dragon

California Maki Roll (4.95) - Consisting of crabstick, avocado, cooked egg, cucumber and topped with tobikko.
Yummy, Yummy, Yummy. Its soo filling as well for just 8 pieces. But off course I shared! Tastes even better with Wasabi.

Ocean Dragon

Avacado Maki (£3.00) - For first time trier's or people who don't usually eat raw seafood, its best to go for this option as its simple yet tasty. There are many other options on the menu you can have with Maki rolls.

Ocean Dragon

Gona Sake Avocado (£3.20)-  Another simple yet filling sushi. Hand-rolled seaweed with sushi rice, avocado & Salmon (Fave ingredients!) and a sprinkle of sesame. It's great that they actually fill up the hand roll with the ingredients all the way to the bottom.

I would rate Ocean Dragon 7.5, having been here for the first time, it was a good impression on this occasion, the food was lovely and fresh although some dishes lacked seasoning. The service was to a good standard but the downfall was that their card machine was not available during our visit. Would i recommend and visit again? Definately :) Hope you've enjoyed this post! Another Birthday celebration post will be up very shortly.. Level 1 The Arcadian Centre, 70 Hurst Street, Birmingham B5 4TDAngela xo
