The Gallup Poll has put out its yearly survey on what people think of various professions. This latest one was done between December 8th and 11th of a random national sample of 805 adults, and has a margin of error of 4 points.
As usual, nurses scored higher than any other profession, with 80% of respondents saying they had high honesty and ethical standards. Nurses significantly scored higher than doctors, who tied with pharmacists for second place (65%).
The drop is pretty steep to third and fourth places. Police Officers dropped six points from last year -- from 54% to 48%, probably due to the negative publicity they've received in the last few months. The clergy wasn't far behind the police, coming in at 46% (only one percent lower than last year). It's pretty sad when less than half of the public thinks the police and clergy have high honesty and ethical standards, but that's the current situation.
But those numbers look great when compared to those of Members of Congress. Only a pitiful 7% think they are honest and ethical, and frankly, after the ridiculous actions of Congress for the last few years, I'm surprised the number was even that high.
