Non-Guilty Pleasure

Posted on the 26 September 2021 by Latoya @latoyallawrence

When I want a snack, I usually go for the healthy choices of food such as fruits, seeds and nuts.

I try to stay away from highly processed foods as much as possible. If I eat crackers, I eat the ones that are 100% whole grain and without certain types of flours and hydrogenated oils.

I rarely drink or eat any prepackaged food that contain any added sugars. If or when I do it is only on occasion.

This past Friday and Saturday was one of my rare occasions as I just couldn’t resist the taste of a cookie.

It had been a long while since I had any cookies as I stay away from junk food. I love oatmeal cookies. I am also fond of ginger snap, coconut, and peanut butter cookies.

Oatmeal, peanut and ginger are extremely healthy natural foods. Coconut is great too although it may get a bad reputation for being high in saturated fat.

However, coconut can be alright within moderation just as with anything else, and according to the condition and health of the individuals who consume.

The problem often lies within the specific contents of an item. Either there is far too much sugar, unnecessary and unhealthy fats, or a combination of impure or bad ingredients listed on the product.

It is rare to find sweets that are fairly healthy unless one were to make the dessert themself.

I constantly read labels before I purchase anything and reasoned that since my lifestyle consists primarily on a strict regimen of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, legumes and etc…. that it could not hurt to sink my teeth into an “innocent naughty treat”.

The only downside is that some of us tend to eat too much of what we like. But hey, we only live once.

Just as long as we do not overdo it too much.
