Nokia World 2013: Abu Dhabi Event Highlights

Long anticipated Nokia World 2013 is finally over and here are the highlights from Abu Dhabi event.

Today, at special press event in Abu Dhabi, Nokia presented not one, but two new smartphones from Lumia series:  Lumia 1520 and Lumia 1320. However, all eyes were on 1520, a 6-inch phablet with a resolution of 1080p , which looks like a super-sized version of the 1020. It will be shipped with Windows Phone 8 OS, quad-core 2.2 GHz Snapdragon 800 processor, 2 GB of RAM, 32 GB of a built-in storage expandable via microSD slot. In addition, it is equipped with a  20-mega-pixel PureView camera with OIS. Comparing to previous Lumia models, this one has some outstanding performances, it is of sharp and shiny design, and although phablet- Lumia 1520 is quite handy and easy to use.

As for the Lumia 1320, this headset also comes with a 6-inch display, yet does not feel bulky or heavy in the hand. The rounded edges and slim profile are rather elegant delightful and the exterior made of rubbery plastic is very pleasant to the touch. Unlike Lumia 1520, this smartphone is powered by a 1.7 GHz dual-core Snapdragon 400 processor, a 5-mega-pixel camera and what they have in common apart from the screen size is the operating system, both are running Windows Phone 8.

Another great Nokia device revealed today is their first tablet-  a 10.1-inch display tablet with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels, powered by 2.2 GHz quad-core processor, 2 GB of RAM, 32 GB of internal storage with a microSD card slot. Just like Microsoft Surface, the Lumia 2520 comes with customized Power Keyboard, an all-around cover with fully functional keypad. The Power keyboard will provide you with five hours of extra battery life and two built-in USB ports. The charging is now upgraded, allowing you to charge up to an 80 percent in one hour. The Nokia tablet supports 4G LTE and Wi-Fi, and since it’s running Windows RT, it comes with the pre-installed Microsoft Office and Outlook.

Nokia also expanded Asha series of phones with three new devices:  Asha 500, Asha 502, and Asha 503, that will be available in bright red, bright green, yellow, cyan, white, and black.

Along with these fantastic devices, the Finns revealed a new portable wireless charging plate named Nokia DC-50. The device supports the Qi wireless standard and is compatible with Lumia 1520, Lumia 1020, Lumia 925, and Lumia 920.

Availability

The new Nokia devices will all be available on the market soon. Lumia 1520 will be launched in the 4th quarter of 2013, while Lumia 1320 will start selling in the 1st quarter of 2014. As for Nokia’s first tablet, it is expected to be shipped in the months to come. All three Asha phones will be available in the 4th quarter of this year as well as the wireless charging plate- DC-50.
