Nivea Express Hydration PrimerNivea has decided upon the genius idea of combining your daily moisturiser with a primer, essentially halving the time taken, and the effort needed, for your pre-make up preparation. Nivea has made life that little bit more easy without compromising the health of your skin, and it does all of this with a light gel cream in a 50ml glass pot. The Nivea Express Hydration Primer comes in 2 styles; one for normal skin (blue lid) and the other for sensitive skin (pink lid), and both come housed in a box, giving the feeling of a far more luxurious product than what is usually associated with the Nivea brand.

The cream itself is a semi-runny cream which spreads exceptionally well. It’s unlikely that you’ll need to use very much of this cream, so a glass pot like this will likely last a very long time. As such I would have preferred a primer with a pump to prevent the moisturising cream becoming contaminated over time, and to keep it more fresh for longer. It does also smell exceptionally nice; it’s fresh and smells clean, like something you’d get from a good spa treatment. The cream is translucent white, and absorbs exceptionally quickly into your skin allowing you to apply your make-up within a few seconds of applying the Express Hydration Primer. What’s more is that the primer leaves a smooth base which has been designed to keep makeup in place for longer, whilst simultaneously moisturising the skin and providing long-lasting hydration with the aid of hydrators and vitamins.

This primer has left me a little confused though, because whilst it feels and smells exceptionally nice, I haven’t noticed much difference in its ability to keep makeup in place for longer than usual. I have noticed that on first application my skin didn’t look very different. It didn’t look more shiny or more matte; but just natural and normal. The difference is in the feel; my skin instantly felt a lot more smooth and less oily (my skin is naturally oily), and felt like a much better base for makeup. It allowed for an even and smooth application of makeup, although I didn’t notice if it kept my makeup in place for longer than usual, or if it kept my oil at bay. As such I’m slightly disappointed that I didn’t feel this cream worked well as a primer, but I did notice it worked very well as a moisturiser because my skin now feels exceptionally soft, and also looks very clear. Not every moisturiser can do that without drying out my skin, producing an oily film or causing a breakout, so as such I’m impressed with this cream as a moisturiser. The staying power of the primer does need improving, but it’s not bad for £4.99! I just would have expected a more substantial advance in the time my makeup stayed in place when using the Nivea Express Hydration Primer.
