Nineties Beauty Retro #beautiesonfire Link Up

By Elisabeth @onecutedoc

“Attention Beauty Lovers. Welcome to the next Beauties On Fire themed link-up. If you don’t know about Beauties on Fire, make sure to check out this post. Our next theme was decided via a Twitter poll. Anyone could vote and our winner was…”RETRO.” All the AMAZING #beautiesonfire members have written posts with their own spin on Retro looks (mine will be nineties beauty).

I was a total nineties girl. I was born early in the 90’s and totally remember many of the trends. Retro is defined as:

“imitative of a style, fashion, or design from the recent past.”

I figured what better time to do a 90’s beauty look. Many of the 90’s trends are coming back. However, I hope some of the trends never do (as you will see in this post). I hope you enjoy this 90’s beauty look and that it makes you laugh/remember the era. BONUS: I will also be sharing some of my favorite 90’s products so stay tuned for that. EXTRA BONUS: I wrote a post on retro beauty products that you will want to check out as well.

Also, make sure you check out all the links below and show some love (come back often to see which bloggers have posted). They are seriously so amazing. I know you will love reading them as much I have. Also, we are always accepting new members and anyone can join (see post above or rules below). Make sure you check out last week’s #beautiesonfire “Back to School” link-up if you missed it.

Nineties Beauty Look:

90s-beauty-trends

I found this awesome article on The Most Embarrassing 90’s Beauty Trends. It brought back so many memories of my childhood and I just had to recreate some of the trends. Which trends did you rock in the 90’s? Do you miss any of these trends? Which trends give you nightmares? I would love to know your answers in the comments below!

Pencil Thin Eyebrows

A 90’s trend that was so popular and that I hope never returns is pencil thin eyebrows. Most of the time eyebrows were overplucked and drawn on. It really isn’t a flattering look.

Blue Eyeshadow Overload

Blue Eyeshadow Overload

Blue and black eyeshadow were very popular in the 90’s. It totally goes with the gothic trend. I was obsessed with blue eyeshadow because I thought it would make my blue eyes brighter.

Brown Lips

Brown Lips

Brown lips were very popular in the 90’s and they have made a huge comeback!

Crimped Hair

Oh, the crimped hair. Totally made popular by pop stars. I was obsessed with this look and would have my mom braid my hair in tiny braids before going to bed. I would wake up in the morning and take them out to reveal crimped hair. Did anyone else do this? I also totally had that blue crimper with attachments that didn’t crimp my hair at all. It just burnt it. I had stick straight hair that just wouldn’t cooperate.

Hair accessories were also popular. Many girls wore beads, butterfly clips, and barrettes through their hair. Accent braid overload and top corn rows were also seen everywhere.

Tendrils

Tendrils

Almost every girl in my school did this trend. Two pieces of hair were straightened and left out. It is such an awful trend that I hope never returns.

Fountain Head

Fountain Head

This trend cracks me up and I totally did it. Girls would wear their hair in very high ponytails/half-ponytails. The hair looked like a fountain and a thick scrunchie was placed around the fountain to keep it up. Totally I Dream Of Jeannie.

Let me know which of these trends you rocked!
