New to the Vaping World? Here’s What You Need to Know!

First, let us say congratulations for putting down your cigarettes and picking up that e-cig or vaporizer. We know it wasn't easy. Once smokers ourselves, we found it more than a little challenging to let go of something we had clung to for so many years and replace that habit with something we weren't sure we believed in. Well, we believe now, and we know you won't regret making the switch. Not only is e-smoking healthier, as we're sure you know by now, but it's also cheaper. That is what we like to call a twofer. And doesn't it feel good to take better care of yourself and your wallet?

Of course, it's only cheaper if you do your research, find out what you actually need, and spend your money on quality products that won't crap out on you two months down the road. We're here to help with that. So read on and we'll give you the info you need to start off your vaping career on the right foot.

The basics first. If you want to make an informed decision about where to spend your money, you need to know what exactly you're paying for. When it comes to vaporizers and vaping, you can break things down into three parts: the battery, the cartridge, and the e-juice. These three categories hold true across all devices, whether we're talking about traditional sized e-cigs or your larger gear that can often be as big as a cigar.

From our point of view, cigarette-sized kits are best for casual vapers and those transitioning from a smoking habit. For those who vape consistently throughout the day, larger kits make more sense, as they feature longer lasting batteries and hold more e-juice. As a beginner, you'll want to buy a vape pen kit that comes with everything included: battery, charger, etc. Some kits skimp on the essentials and the companies that sell them make their money off beginners who don't know any better. Don't be one of them!

Now that we've covered the basics, let's take a closer look at the individual parts.

The battery. There are two types: automatic and manual. The differences between them are pretty simple. With automatic batteries, sucking on your e-cig activates the battery. With manual batteries, you must press a button before you take a hit. Manual batteries last longer at the cost of a little convenience, but frankly, we don't find pressing a button such a big deal. We'd rather have a battery that will last through the day, even if our poor thumbs must do a little work with that button.

Many batteries also feature a voltage setting which allows you to regulate the size and intensity of your vapes. More voltage means bigger clouds. If you see yourself becoming an all-day vaper, you should get some sort of portable charger to ensure that your battery will last all day long.

The cartridge. Your cartridge carries the e-juice, and there are four kinds of cartridges to choose from: atomizers, cartomizers, clearomizers, and tanks. The difference between them have mostly to do with how much e-juice they can hold. Atomizers carry only a few drops and are used for sampling flavors. Cartomizers use a wadding material to hold the e-juice, and they carry roughly 30 drops of e-juice. Clearomizers forego the wadding material and hold roughly 60 drops. Tanks also use no wadding material and hold around 150 drops of e-juice.

E-juice (or e-liquid). This is the fun stuff. Coming in countless flavors and varying nicotine strengths, the sky's the limit when it comes to e-juice. For beginners, we recommend buying the smallest sizes at first as you experiment and develop your specific tastes. We also recommend using medium strength e-juice (around 18mg of nicotine) until you get a feel for its effects. And remember, very few (if any) retailors will accept returns on e-juice for obvious health and safety reasons, so make sure you pay for what you want.
