New Malware Spreads Through Facebook Disguised as Porn

Posted on the 06 February 2015 by Nrjperera @nrjperera

A new kind of malware is now rapidly spreading through Facebook, which disguises itself as links to porn videos. Over 110,000 guys has already fallen victim to this malware, within just two days, which infected their Facebook account and their computers, according to security researcher Mohammad Faghani.

It usually appears on your Facebook news feed as video shared by a user on your friends list. Once you click on the link it will ask you to update flash player to continue viewing the video. When accepted it will install a fake flash player, which is actually malware that will take control of your Facebook account and share the same clip through your profile tagging several more friends of yours.

“The trojan tags the infected user’s friends in an enticing post. Upon opening the post, the user will get a preview of a porn video which eventually stops and asks for downloading a (fake) flash player to continue the preview,” said Faghani. “The fake flash player is the downloader of the actual malware. We have been monitoring this malware for the last two days where it could infect more than 110K users only in two days and it is still on the rise.”

Facebook is currently working on the issue to put an end to this manipulative malware. But, in the mean time, if you see an unusual porn video shared by one of your friends, make sure to avoid clicking on the link and also report it to Facebook.
