You’re standing in the shower, getting ready to start your day and you start looking around at the walls, the tub, your grout lines. Uh oh, when was the last time you cleaned your shower and tub?? We’ve all been there, and it’s not a great feeling. The last thing you want to do is head to work while thinking about your gross shower and when you’re going to find time to clean it. But don’t worry! Our shower and bathtub step by step natural cleaning guide is going to get you through this (hopefully). If you’re interested in a full deep clean, our natural cleaning guide has everything you need to know about cleaning your bathroom with natural products.

Step 1:

Find the motivation to set some time aside and actually clean your shower (this is the hardest part).

Step 2:

Hopefully, you actually made it past step 1. I’m banking on the fact that you did because you’re still reading this guide. The next plan of attack is to remove everything from your shower. Soap, shampoo, razors, loofahs, beer bottle from your last shower beer? You get the point. You don’t want your cleaning solutions all over your shower stuff. I can’t imagine accidentally mixing vinegar with your shampoo will end well. You’re also going to want to make sure your bathroom is properly ventilated before getting started. I suggest turning on the fan and opening the window if you have one. If for some reason you don’t have either of these options, at least open the door.

Step 3:

Time to make your natural cleaning solution. There are many benefits to using natural cleaning solutions that you can check out here. First, you’ll want to heat up your vinegar in the microwave until it’s warm and then mix in a spray bottle with warm water. Vinegar’s acidity level is great for cutting through the dirt and grime that has probably built up in your shower by now. If you’re dealing with particularly tough stains, add in some baking soda!

Step 4:

I would recommend starting from the top because of gravity and whatnot. If you start from the bottom, everything is going to drip down onto what you just cleaned. Starting with the grout is a good choice too because it’s the most time consuming and annoying part of the job. Using a good bristled scrubber or a toothbrush is going to be your best friend when scrubbing grout lines. Once you’ve finished that, give everything a good rinse. The easiest way to do this is to grab a cup and fill it with water so you can pour it over the grout you just scrubbed.

Step 5:

Now that you’ve finished the hard part, spray everything in the shower/tub with your cleaning solution. Let it sit for 10-15 minutes so it has time to soak into everything. Once you’ve let it sit for an acceptable period of time, grab a sponge and start scrubbing! The dirt, grime, and soap scum should come off relatively easily because you’ve been letting it sit.Step 6:

The next step is to scrub the floor of the shower or tub. You’ll often find hard water rings that can be scrubbed off fairly easily with vinegar and baking soda.

Step 7:

Now, all you have to do is rinse everything off!

Using natural cleaning solutions is a cheap, easy, and environmentally friendly way to clean your bathroom. I was a little skeptical about the effectiveness of vinegar and baking soda when I first tried it, but it works just as well if not better than your standard big name brand cleaning solution. At Tradewinds Imports, we are all about supporting sustainability and this is an easy first step to becoming a little more environmentally friendly.
