My Little Epiphany During My Big Race

I finished my fifth half marathon today in Brooklyn, New York. It was EPIC if I can use that tired old word for a moment. When I run my mind runs too. I think about everything from my children to my job to sex to wondering how morbidly obese people wipe themselves when they use the toilet if their arms are too short. Yeah I know that’s so random but I swear I can’t turn it off.

Anyway, today I was thinking about a comment that keeps popping up whenever I post something on Facebook about my races. My “friends” call me inspirational. I started thinking about that word and why they call me that. I don’t always feel so inspirational. If they knew how crummy my life can be some days or how badly I wanna give up on some things they wouldn’t be inspired. They would be disgusted. But now I think I know one reason why people are viewed as inspirational.

I do what I commit to do whether I want to or not. Once I put it into the universe, it’s a done deal unless some unforeseen circumstance stops me. My very wise parents instilled in my sister and I that you must always finish what you start. If you don’t like it, don’t sign up for it again but you have to finish. It’s all about consistency. That’s what’s so inspirational. The people who inspire me and so many others are usually very consistent. They don’t waiver and they stick it out no matter what comes their way. You always know what you’re going to get from them.

I post a picture when I start these races and one when I finish. The first post is my commitment to a task. The last post is my confirm that yes I did what I said I was going to do. I guess people see that and feel like if I can stick it out so can they.

So that’s my epiphany as I ride this bus back home. Consistency is very inspirational. Stick to the task and see it through. People will most certainly notice that winning quality in you.

Peace!!
