Rahab Wanjiku painfully tells the story of how her husband slept with her cousin and later infected her with Hiv leaving her with the burden of taking medicine everyday.
Rahab was born in Ol Kalao in a family of four children and she was the second child her mom was a single mom who later got very ill and passed away leaving them under the care of their grandmother.
She says she studied till class eight and then started hustling to help her grandmother raise her siblings her small sister who was mentally unstable was taken advantage of and got a baby and she was forced to take care of the child like her own.
Rahab says that after three years of hustling she met a guy and told him her life story and he said he was ready to take her and also her sister’s child she got married and after 2 years she got pregnant and she got a boy.
Three years later she got pregnant again and this time got a girl she then decided to call upon her cousin to help her in raising her kids as she was just at home she came and helped until the kids were of manageable age.
The cousin then called hers few years later wanting to visit her again and Rahab agreed when she came Rahab noticed the cousin and her husband had been texting while they were in the house.
The husband denied and there stormed an argument but the cousin left after it Rahab then decided to go tell her grandmother what had happened and she was told to persevere as she couldn’t manage to raise the kids alone
Rahab says she was left with no option but to go back after few months she got pregnant again and like other pregnancies she went for clinic she was tested and her results came out positive.
She went home and showed the husband the result and confronted him the husband however denied everything claiming Rahab was the one who had infected him he even denied the pregnancy
“All my life he was the only man I had ever been with,I had never gone out of wed Lock” Rahab says.
She once again went to her grandmother asking why she didn’t tell her about her cousin’s condition and the grandmother told her to just take medication this lowered her self esteem.
Rahab’s friend encouraged her and she gained strength to go to the clinic again and here she was told she was pregnant with twins she was so shocked when the broke the news to the husband he said he wasn’t going to take responsibility.
At this same time she received names that her younger sister had once again been taken advantage of and gotten twins this time too they became her responsibility the husband refused to welcome them and she took them to her friend.
She says that when delivery time came and the husband didn’t even contribute anything she stayed in hospital for a month being supported by good Samaritans.
When she went home the husband became too violent and she had to move out and rent she and the seven kids she was raising suffered so much to a point of sleeping hungry at times.
She was able to get a good Samaritan who gave her a place in Githurai where she lives to date but she has no means of educating the kids because she is just a hustler.
She encourages anyone who innocently got infected and urges them to take medication and not to hate themselves because they can still live long.
