More Now Say Gov. Is Responsible For Insuring Health Care
I found this Rasmussen Poll (done on May 7th and 8th of a random national sample of 1,000 likely voters, with a 3 point margin of error) to be interesting.
It shows that about half of all Americans (49%) now believe the government is responsible for making sure all Americans have decent health care. This means more people are now understanding that health care (something everyone needs sooner or later) is a right of all citizens, and not just a product to be sold to those who can afford it. About 42% disagree.
It is sad that 42% don't think the government should be responsible for guaranteeing decent health care for all -- because it has become obvious that this is the only way everyone will be able to have health care. The private sector, focused only on profits, has been a miserable failure. Other developed nations understand this, which is why nearly all of them have adopted some form of a single-payer, government-run system. It's time for the United States to follow suit.
Unfortunately, it will take more than 49% believing that to make it happen. At least, public opinion is moving in the right direction.
