Minneapolis-St. Paul Ranked America's Healthiest City

The American Fitness Index ranked Minneapolis-St. Paul No. 1 this year on their list of the best large cities for fit and active lifestyles.

Some of the reasons they gave us the No. 1 spot:

  • We breathe clean air
  • We prioritize exercise and keep our weight down
  • We were among the first to add bike trails
  • We were among the first to ban smoking in public places
  • We have more farmers' markets
  • We are less likely to have cardiovascular disease, diabetes and asthma
  • We are more likely to be in excellent or very good health
  • We are less likely to smoke
  • We are more likely to walk or bike to work
  • We have a high percentage of parkland, with lots of green space, parks, walking areas, ball fields, tennis courts, playgrounds, dog parks, golf courses, recreational facilities
