Minimal chic wedding in Mykonos | Britt & Michael

If you are looking for an intimate and romantic wedding that is all about the gorgeous location, Britt and Michael’s wedding in Mykonos is a can’t miss. «Our approach to our ceremony was to focus on intimate, natural, selected elements. The villa we had chosen facing the Aegean Sea already had such beautiful detail – the stone, the natural arch, the soft sunset hues at dusk – we decided to incorporate select details to enhance the setting, but to really let the space lead. We wanted to make sure that things didn’t feel like they were fighting for attention, overwhelming, or getting in the way of the peaceful calm that dominated that day…We wouldn’t have changed a single thing…» the bride shared with us and we simply can’t wait to share with you all the heartfelt moment captured so beautifully by Vasilis Liappis Photography.

«We met through a mutual friend who was at a wedding in Germany. And after the least subtle blind-date setup that she coordinated thereafter, we really didn’t look back. We loved each other’s company, exploring together, spending time with one another. Eventually, we didn’t ever want to stop doing that. In the fall of 2022, we were in Montreal for a long weekend visiting the city where my family lineage came through, and after an intimate dinner at the beautiful Bonaparte, which is tucked on the sweet side-streets of Old Town Montreal, Mike asked if I wanted to stop for a drink before heading back to the hotel. And then there, out on the cobblestone, in a nod to my favorite movie’s ending, Breakfast at Tiffany’s, as it gently began to rain, Mike got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. We then dashed back inside to Bonaparte where the staff was waiting with champagne to celebrate. Everyone had been in on it, and it ended up being this really wonderful, sweetly shared moment in a place that felt like home for so many reasons.» the bride shared with us.

«I can’t remember ever feeling that much gratitude, that level of peace. Vasilis, our incredible photographer and now friend, had to tell me at one point, “Don’t cry” because every photo I was choking back emotion. Our favorite moment, was the moment, was being so present, so aware, so connected to where we were, to the ones we were with, to the new chapter we were stepping into. The rest of the world melted away. It’s something neither of us will ever forget.»

«We had a phrase early on that served us so well, “If it’s stressful, we pivot.” We knew if it was for us, it would just align. Anything that felt like it was adding complication or required jumping through hoops, we released. And the pieces that showed up, that just said a resounding ‘yes’ from the moment we engaged them, we knew they were ours. We decided to do our wedding differently very early on. With our extended families in different states, those we love who are unable to travel, and friends scattered around the globe, we chose to do multiple ceremonies, to see and share our day with as many as we could.»

«We chose Mykonos for the celebration with our lifelong friends, 10 of our closest who’ve known us the longest. It not only allowed for the day to be so calm, but truly felt like bringing family together, those who know our hearts best. It can be easy to get pulled in so many directions – breaking it up into smaller, focused ceremonies, alleviated so much of the stress for us and it allowed us to come back to ourselves, to our own voices, to what felt right for the start of our life together. »

«The moment before the ceremony began – It was so peaceful, calm. Everyone tells you the wedding day is a blur and that there are countless last minute stressors. We feel really fortunate that we experienced neither. I (Britt) remember, right before it was the moment to step out to walk down the aisle, I was overwhelmed with so much love – love for the beautiful place of Agios Sostis beach, love for my friends who were there with me, some of whom I’ve known almost as long as I’ve been alive, love for the man I was about to marry, and all of the love coming back to Mike and I. It felt as if nothing could touch us, we had created this safe, sacred, little space at the northern end of the island – it was overwhelming to say the least.»

«I ended up falling in love with a dress called The Katherine, from the Vera Wang bridal line. It felt classic, but modern, elegant, but effortless. It literally took my breath away. Traveling with this gown to Greece from the states was a bit of an adventure. The Katherine traveled to five cities, onto three ferries, and two international flights. Taking a ballgown to a destination wedding is an added focus, but it was so worth it. The dress, in many ways, felt as if it became a part of the decor for the wedding. I loved the wild, but intentional layers of tulle, they felt beautifully chaotic – sophisticated, but free. The long, dramatic veil did wonders in the winds coming from the sea below. It felt like climbing inside a line of poetry, all of it – a moment of dance. I love this dress. »
