Please welcome Roxana!

So, without delay, here is Roxana’s guest post: How to spend “Me Time”

***************************************************************

It is interesting to me how we are so complex.  We all have lots of talents and skills we want to improve or even try out.  We can talk about travel, love to bake and write.  We have so many things taking up our lives:  families, work, personal interests, church or social events, etc.  Can you relate?  Is your plate full of things, ideas and new skills you want to put to the test?

When do you take “ME” time?  Life is so complicated in the 21st century.  Computers are not simplifying our lives, they are adding more things to do.  With all this information inundating our time, when do we connect with who we are?

I say “ME” time stand for My Energy.  And the only way you can reconnect with your energy is by taking a little time to slow down.  We could all use a vacation.  And yet, we don’t seem to have the time.  What I suggest is simple.  In between spouses, children, work, baking the perfect cupcake, visiting a Caribbean island and more, you can give yourself a mini vacation that is all about YOU.  Why?  Because if you don’t recover your own energy, you will be of no use to anyone else.

Suggestions for a mini vacation are as small as taking a 15 minute bath, a five minute meditation break or spending a lazy Saturday doing absolutely nothing.  If you feel guilty for doing nothing, get a good book and spend the entire day reading it.  This is a time for you to devote to yourself.

At this point you are thinking that I have lost my mind. You have all these “obligations” you must take care off.  I ask you two questions:  must you absolutely take care of this now?  and if it has to be now, does it have to be you?

Here’s the thing.  Many of the things that we do can be delegated.  For example, the older your children are, the more tasks should be assigned to them at home.  If you have more than one child, make them take turns cooking dinner for the entire family or sharing the house chores.  If you have a significant other, how much is that person contributing to the chore list?  There is another consideration:  do you really have to pursue five different hobbies at the same time?

To show my point, I give you this story:  I love writing, painting, drawing and walking.  I would love to learn to do jewelry and ceramics, learn to swim and sail, visit exotic locations and learn to play volleyball.  I’m also in the middle of starting a new business venture, go back to college, and that is not counting the husband and daughter and my wonderful dog.  Do I have time to pursue ALL these interests at the same time?  No.  Does it make me tired just listing them here?  Yes.  So what is the solution?

My mini vacations are a perfect opportunity to handle this.  Why?  Because painting, drawing and walking is ME time and so, I can use those three things to have my mini vacation, recharge my batteries and get back in the game.  Can I do the rest at the same time?  No.  And as I take more time for myself, I will organize my life to follow one big passion at a time and keep the rest as hobbies or later pursuits.

You can’t do it all, you can’t be all for everyone and you must take time for yourself to fill yourself with energy.  Life is too short.  If you fit too much into it, you miss the great opportunities to relax, unwind and enjoy it.  Procrastinate tomorrow.  Pick your mini vacation today.
