Matchmaker Vs Online Dating: What is Better in 2018

By Claireogden

There are many different ways of dating available to singles nowadays. Besides traditional and online dating, the professional matchmaking services are also accessible to help you to find your soulmate. Matchmaker is convenient as it saves a lot of time when it comes to dating, however, it can be quite pricey. On the other hand, online dating gives you the possibility to meet people online and get to know them better before meeting in person. An expert in dating has shared his opinion on matchmaker vs online dating:

matchmaker vs online dating

I got introduced to the world of online dating a few years ago and I never looked back. I remember listening to the “This is true love we’re making” while creating my dating profile with nothing but excitement. I ended up meeting my ex-girlfriend on a dating site and that was my first serious relationship. Then, I got a new job that requires a lot of traveling at research outside of the regular office hours. I no longer was able to spend hours looking through profiles of women on dating sites. My dating life had died down very fast and I knew I had to do something to fix it. I tried matchmaker for the first time in my life and here is what I think about it:

My experience with matchmaking services

I saw an advertisement about matchmaker online and decided to give a try. Shortly after I contacted the matchmaker, we met up and had a brief consultation about what type of a relationship I’m looking for, my educational background,  interests, hobbies, passions, etc. I was asked similar questions that I saw on the dating sites, but instead of filling out the answers online, I had to answer them in person. At first, It was difficult to open up to a stranger but after a while I got comfortable and we ended up having a lovely meeting. As I was speaking, the matchmaker was writing down my information. At the end of the consultation, I was charged a non-refundable fee and was told that I will be contacted within a week.

My experience with matchmaking services

Week 1

I was contacted in about 5 days after the initial consultation and was told that there is a match for me already. I got excited and the matchmaker arranged a one-on-one date for us as he thought the woman was a perfect candidate for me. Lucy and I met at a local coffee shop. Turns out, she lived only one block away from me. The date went well, she was polite and funny. I could tell she was really into me, but unfortunately, I didn’t feel the same. The chemistry wasn’t there. After the date, she tried to contact me multiple times and eventually I had to tell her that I wasn’t interested in being in a romantic relationship with her. Surprisingly, she took it well and we agreed on staying friends. We still keep in touch to this day and I’m glad I met her.

Week 2

On my second week, I attended a party with the matchmaker. There were a lot of single women at the event and I got introduced to some of them. I hit it off with one of the ladies and we exchanged numbers. After a couple of days, we went out for lunch and had a great time. She was one of the best love makers I’ve ever been with. I found out that she actually lives in another country and came down for a visit. I was quite upset because I liked her and could see myself dating her. However, we both realized that long distance relationship is not something we want and parted our ways at the end of the date. I am currently on week 3 and will continue using the services for a few more weeks.

Matchmaking services vs Online dating

After I tried both methods of dating, I came up with the conclusion that there are advantages and disadvantages of online dating as well as the matchmaking services. Do matchmaking services really work? They do, but of course, it all depends on you and the professional, how both of you work towards the goal and your relationship with the matchmaker. I don’t prefer one method over another and like both of them for different reasons.

Pros and cons of online dating

Pros and cons of online dating

Pros:

It’s convenient. I can meet and chat with women at any time of the day without leaving my house.

A lot of options. I’m presented with plenty of profiles of single women in my area. I don’t have to spend time searching for them or figuring out whether they are already taken or not.

Cons:

It’s time-consuming. Online dating takes a lot of work and time, so if you are a busy man like myself, it might not be the best choice.

It’s not 100% safe. There are a lot of scam and fake profiles in online dating and some of them look completely real, so be careful.

Dating sites to start your dating journey

The following dating sites are good choices if you are looking for a serious relationship. I have come across of a lot of users with serious intentions while I was using them.

  • VictoriaHearts
  • RomanceTale
  • Victoriabrides

Pros and cons of matchmaking

Pros and cons of matchmaking

Pros:

It saves time. When you have a matchmaker, you no longer have to spend hours looking and picking out women on dating sites. You are already presented with the options chosen for you.

It’s safer. Since the matchmaker already got acquainted with your match, the chances of ending up a crazy or horrible person are slim to none.

Cons:

It’s pricey. The matchmaker fees can be quite expensive. You have to figure out for yourself whether if the matchmaker is worth the money or not.

It’s not always accurate. Even if the matchmaker knows you and your potential match personally, there is always a chance that the two of you will not hit it off as it all depends on the chemistry.
