Yesterday I attended a resin jewelry making class at Candu. I was given the gift as a birthday present via Red Balloon and it was heaps of fun!

The lovely teacher Brad patiently showed me and my class mate (we were lucky that we had a very small class so we ended up making heaps more jewelry than advertised… can’t complain about that!) each step in the process of making jewellery, plus how to make your own jewellery molds  from silicone so that you could replicate something from your own collection in resin.

Brad showed us different techniques for colouring the resin, from translucent to opaque colours, pearlescent colours and even adding glitter!  Then he also showed us different techniques for colouring and pouring to create different effects.  Some of my pieces worked better than others, but one of the things I like about resin as a materials is how organic it can look, so mistakes really don’t look that bad!

Resin jewelry making is an incredibly simple process, just mixing the color into  the two part resin mix and then pouring (with care) into the mold.  Of course, once it cures and hardens then the elbow grease comes in as you have to sand, sand, sand to smooth off edges.  Highly recommended!
