Welcome to Mailbox Monday, a meme started by Marcia of To Be Continued.
It's been a long time since I did a Mailbox Monday post. Sadly, I have not been accepting too many review copies of late. I've been enjoying my own reads, and accepting less review copies meant that I could focus more on reading the books I have long wanted to read, and also be able to read them at my pace without worrying about a blogging schedule.
But once in a while, a tempting enough book comes along my way, and then it's a slippery slope to accepting a whole bunch of other books.
The culprit this time was Aqson Level 1, which I completed reading and reviewing last week.
It was so interesting and pleasurable, that I rapidly accepted a bunch of other books as well.
Here is what came into my mailbox:
- Lanka's Princess by Kavita Kane - This is a story about Surpanaka from the mythological epic - Ramayana. Kavita Kane is a seasoned author who has written a number of women-centric books highlighting some much maligned or much ignored women characters from our Indian epics. I've read a few of her books, and always love how she describes her characters and settings in a way that rings true to those times.
- Songs of Stone by Sujata S.Sabnis - The moment the publicist mentioned Mughal, and love story, and Taj, I was sold on this book, and said a resounding YES to this one. I started on this book last week, and I have obsessed over it. It's an absolute corker of a love story, and I know I am going to be raving about this book on the blog in a week's time.
- Band Baaja Boys by Rachna Singh - This book is a humorous take on a young Indian girl's take on love. Call it a desi Bridget Jones if you will. I skimmed through this book, and I just know it's going to have me in splits.
- Strongman's Daughter by Madhuri Iyer - This book is supposed to be a nail-biting saga about a girl's clash against her oppressive father, and I don't know too much more about the book beyond that. However, it is from Fingerprint Publishing who have always passed on some excellent books to me for review purposes, and so just based on the origin alone, I accepted this one.
Last but not the least is the latest in the Clifton Chronicles by Jeffrey Archer.
The Clifton Chronicles is a family saga about a bunch of aristocrats living through the World War eras, right down up to the Margaret Thatcher regime in UK. So, I guess, this can be called a historical, even if the Thatcher era still seems quite recent to me. I love the cover on this one, and it's probably going to be the next book I pick up from this lot.
