Madman Walking by L.F Robertson

By Pamelascott

Appellate lawyer JanetMoodie is called in to work on a post-conviction investigation on a sordidmurder-for-hire case. The client is uncooperative, likely schizophrenic, although he's never let a psychiatrist near him long enough to get a diagnosis.Convicted of arranging the shooting of a drug dealer, under orders from theAryan Brotherhood, Howard Henley is not an easy case, and even on death row hedoesn't seem to understand the severity of his situation. It is up to Janet todiscover just what was done and by whom, and to determine whether to riskputting her client on trial again.

I had high hopes for Madman Walking afterenjoying the first book, Two Lost Boys so much. I was not disappointed.Although this is the second book it can be read alone and you don't necessarilyneed to have read the first book to follow what's going on (a bit like JohnConnolly's Charlie Parker books). I liked the way Janet Moodie continues todevelop in this book and I grew to really like her. The book is fast paced,well-written and has a lot of twists and mis-direction, the kind of stuff Ilove. I would have liked a bit more story elements that came out of the bluebut I really enjoyed the story. I usually don't like novels about lawyers butwhat I liked about Madman Walking and Two Lost Boys is that theyfocus on a lawyer who handles death penalty appeals which is something new andinteresting I've never come across before. I look forward to the next book inthe series.
