I’ve never written about the tragic case of Madeleine McCann before and not because the family’s lawyers would probably sue me for all I haven’t got…
But because the internet is filled with theories – counter theories and so much information it can leave your head spinning…
However that’s not to say that my interest in the poor little mite’s disappearance hasn’t waned from the moment the news was announced she was missing all those years ago…
As a former reporter who has some experience in unraveling a major crime case – (Michael Shirley) – I have been troubled by the sheer amount of inconsistencies peddled by the family’s succession of PR people and indeed the so called Tapas 7…
I haven’t come to this belief lightly – or indeed with any emotional subjectivity – as a journalist it can be difficult not to ‘get involved’ but experience has taught me it’s the facts that matter…
I looked long and hard at the superb McCann Files – the complete library of police files – witness and forensic statements…
The Truth of the Lie
I read the now *un-banned book – in Portugal anyway – The Truth of the Lie written by the once lead detective Dr Goncalo Amaral and realized there was indeed something not quite right about the scenario of that terrible night (if indeed that was the night) put out by Madeleine’s family and friends…
I watched the documentary – banned here in the UK – based on the book and took a long hard look at just what the McCann’s story of the night was…
I’ve read all I can from both sides of the fence and have watched in sadness and at times revulsion as to how both camps seem to fight each other tooth and nail via social media – particularly on Twitter when ‘Troll Fights’ happen all to often…
Why So Much Cash and Support..?
Never before have I observed a case such as this that has split so very many people – from across the world – into two such vehement tribes…
And never before has any of us ever seen such a case receive so much support and cash from the highest offices and individuals in the land…
Why..?
My heart for instance goes out to Kerry Needham and her family – what real help has she had in her fight to Find Ben over all these years..?
There’s just something about the level of support and money the McCann’s have received that gets my journalistic juices flowing – what is going on here..?
You might ask why on earth would I throw my hat into the ring and become yet another blogger looking to get a bit of traffic off the back of a poor little girls disappearance…
It’s really quite simple…
The family have indeed worked wonders keeping the ‘hunt’ for their daughter in the media spotlight. But with that they have to expect public scrutiny coupled with the sad truth that not everyone will wipe away a tear every time Cuddle Cat (washed as soon as possible) is mentioned…
Or throw another few quid into the bottomless kitty to buy – yes buy – Find Madeleine Stickers – without maybe more than a few us asking difficult questions…
The 48 Questions
Which incidentally leads me to one key question – well actually 48 key questions that Kate McCann declined to answer in the early days of the investigation…
Once made an arguido – or person of interest in the case – when interviewed by the police in Portugal Mrs McCann responded with ‘No Comment’ to all 48 questions – and not all of them in anyway threatening – tricky or indeed probing…
It was that revelation that got me thinking – why would a mom desperate to find her daughter not cooperate with the police..?
The explanation she didn’t trust the police doesn’t stand up with me – I mean we’re not talking Keystone Kops and Inspector Clouseau here no matter how often the McCann’s and their PR team spin it…
I could go on with so many inconsistencies we’d be here for days – so to coin a phrase – the truth is out there…
Justice For Madeleine
And if you believe in justice and want to see it served on behalf of Madeleine McCann – I recommend you do your own research – starting with the McCann Files – watch the Documentary – try to avoid the hysterical arguments on the web and use a bit of common sense…
I’m pretty sure you too will have more questions than answers…
*Update: The McCann’s have been fighting a long standing and extremely costly libel battle with the former head of the investigation into Madeleine McCann’s disappearance. The first trial resulted in the case against Dr Goncalo Amaral’s book The Truth of the Lie (still banned in the UK) being found in the McCann’s favour…
However a court ruled this week that decision should be overturned and found for the detective leaving the McCann’s with an estimated 500,000 Euros bill to find…
It’s being reported the McCann’s plan to appeal the decision – yet another expensive court battle…
