iPhone 17 Anti-Reflective Display

Apple is going to launch the iPhone 16 series this year. The lineup is expected to hit the market by September. However, speculations have already started about the iPhone 17 to be launched in 2025. Rumor has it, these phones could be equipped with an upgraded display, which will offer improvements in two areas compared to the previous models. A Chinese tipster has claimed on social media that the iPhone 17 will have a screen that reflects less light and is more scratch resistant. Earlier this year, South Korean smartphone maker Samsung launched its flagship Galaxy S24 Ultra phone with Corning’s Gorilla Glass Armor screen, which is capable of providing similar functionality.

The iPhone 17’s screen will be more scratch resistant and less reflective

Tipster Instant Digital reported in a recent Weibo (Chinese microblogging site) post that Apple has purchased equipment for the coating, which is entering the iPhone supply chain in China. But it will not be used in the iPhone 16, as the series is slated to launch in the second half of this year. Instead, the tipster claims it will be used in the iPhone 17 series, which will offer improved display features such as reduced light reflection and scratch resistance.

The tipster claims that the upcoming iPhone 17 series will have a display with a “super hard” anti-reflective layer. The company’s state-of-the-art Ceramic Shield Glass technology that protects against drop damage is also rumored to be upgraded, offering improved scratch resistance compared to previous models.

Note that a similar technology to this anti-reflective display technology is also seen on the screen of the top-of-the-line model of the Samsung Galaxy S24 series, the Galaxy S24 Ultra. This model is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Armor coating, which offers improved scratch protection and is claimed to reduce reflections more effectively than other smartphone panels.

If the tipster’s claims are true, the iPhone 17’s screen will have no trouble reading and viewing text even in bright light, and it will be even more scratch resistant than previous iPhone models. However, it should be noted that the iPhone 17 lineup is still more than a year and a half away from the market and currently there is no other information available regarding the screen specifications of this series of handsets.
