Lionel Messi wins Ballon D’Or for fourth successive year

Barcelona legend Lionel Messi begins 2013 by winning a super title as he was crowned FIFA Ballon d’Or award for 4th successive year. The Argentina strike, who is Barca’s all-time top scorer in all club rivalries, beat out his club colleague Andrés Iniesta and Portuguese rival Cristiano Ronaldo to win the award.

“To tell you the truth, it’s really quite unbelievable to win this award,” Lionel Messi said in the award ceremony. “The fourth award that I’ve had is just too great for words.”

Lionel Messi enjoyed many record breaking moments in 2012. He won the title of Golden Boot for scoring the most goals in Europe’s domestic leagues of the season. In the last month of year, the25-yea-old embossed his name in football history by surpassing the Gerd Muller’s record of 85 goals that was set about forty years ago.
