Life, According to Reese: A Time for Thanks

Life, According to Reese: A time for thanks

We don’t celebrate Thanksgiving in Australia. As we all know it’s more of a North America tradition celebrated in November, however, THIS month I did a lot of reflecting on my year and summarised some things I have been very fortunate and grateful to have received in the last twelve months.

. Friends
Zoe, my best friend who lives in Melbourne and who I keep regular contact with. She has been my rock and held my hand through every emotion for the last five years.

Alison, a workmate, turned neighbour, turned bestie. So I have the best of ALL worlds. She has given me tough love, been brutally honest when needed, she has kept secrets, and has even helped me through my darkest days. I don’t think I could have gotten this far without her.

Chenea, my piece of serendipity. I met her one day randomly, within an hour we had gone to lunch together, added each other to Facebook and exchanged phone numbers. The rest, as they say, is history.

Chelsea, who has been my pillar of strength and who has guided me through some tough roads. She has never judged the person I am and what I’m capable of being.

. Family
Dad, the first boy I ever loved and the only man that has NEVER broken my heart. He’s the coolest dad on the planet (he still dresses like the dudes from Blink-182), he rides motorcycles and drives a Jeep, and the KING of dad jokes.

Mumma, with exquisite taste in home decor, gardening, food and life. Just an inspiration of everything and makes life so beautiful.

Brother, the most artistic and smartest kid I know. He likes to draw, build cars and computers, and knows a thing or two about home construction. Always surprising me with his infinite knowledge on life without breaking a sweat.

Sister, she’s a DJ, fashion designer, business owner, student and socialite, and that’s only four out of 7 days a week. She’s pretty amazing in the way she presents herself, the way she speaks and can even put herself aside for some silliness when we’re having our sisterly coffee breaks together.

LC and Miss Hamlin, my adopted daughters, are just the best creatures to come home to. Even though I barely get any sleep-ins when I can because both demand to be fed when the sun rises, it is all worth it in the silly animal things they do and the cuddles in between. Both are a delight and I wouldn’t trade them for anything in the world.

. Love
My darling Joe. Words can not express the boundless love I have for this man. From the kisses and cuddles in the morning, to the ‘I love you’s throughout the day, The Simpsons quotes in our everyday conversations and the hysterical laughter he puts me in… he was definitely worth the wait. I haven’t had a sad day since we’ve met; nothing but blues skies, sunshine and happiness.

. Other
Work, although I will never get used to shift work, I have been very fortunate to work in a place that is different everyday. Sometimes it can be crazy busy and other times it’s a bit of a lull, but I’m glad I have it.

To all the haters and people who have broken my heart in the past – THANK YOU! I am humbled by your experience and learned many valuable lessons. You’ve all shown me what an ugly heart looks like, what pure hatred feels like and how deafening a broken heart can be. You’ve shown me how much I am worth, what I deserve and what’s good for me. Karma a bitch… because you are.
