Let Your Light So Shine!

By Firstladyb

Hey girl hey! As we prepare to say goodbye to 2019 and embrace everything that 2020 has to offer, I want to encourage you to follow the words in Matthew 5:16 " Let you light so shine before men; that they may see your good works and glorify your father which is in heaven."

As I write this, I'm encouraging myself as well. See, I was one of those ladies who would dim their own light so that people attached to her light could shine brighter. See, we do that so that they don't feel insecure or inadequate, but it leaves us unfulfilled and bound in chains. Chains of depression, emptiness, loneliness, bitterness, and the list goes on... But today those chains are coming off!!! I've made a decision that NO MORE! No more dimming my own light so that someone else's light can shine brighter. No more playing small so that someone else can feel big. Every gift, every talent, every dream that God has placed on the inside of me I WILL SHINE the light on it and He will get the glory!

Let Your Light So Shine!

Back in the day when I song in the youth choir at our church on 99th Crandon in Chicago we use to sing this song called "This Little Light Of Mine." It took its words from Matthew 5:16:

This Little Light Of Mine,
I'm gonna let it shine,
This Little Light Of Mine,
I'm gonna let it shine,
This Little Light Of Mine,
Yes, I'm gonna let it shine,
Let it shine, let it shine, let it shine

We use to sing that song with so much passion and innocence as kids. If you're like me, as you got older, life began to happen, and those words began to fade, but God!

Girl, now it's time to do the work.. It's time to study more, to pray more, to fast more, and to apply Biblical principles to our lives so that we can come out of the shadows and into the light and be the women that God called us to be! In the words of my girl Ciara, it's time to "Level Up!"

Happy New Year!
