LET THEM EAT CAKE
In my family I am the birthday cake queen, you name it, I'll bake it, so when my sister's birthday rolled around this weekend I knew that I had to make something special for her. Her favorite flavor ... chocolate, of course, so with this in mind I hunted out her favorite recipe for a Sachertorte, a rich chocolatey and most difficult to make cake, that she adores.
Ingredients for cake: 6 eggs145g softened butter145g caster sugar112g plain chocolate115g plain flour
For icing: 225g icing sugar20g cocoa powder
Separate the eggs and put whites in one bowl and yolks in the other. Beat yolks until smooth. Beat the butter and the sugar together with a wooden spoon until white and creamy, add the egg yolks in gradually beating all the time. Break the chocolate up and melt in a bowl over bowling water. Once melted, stir into the creamy mixture. Put the egg whites into a large bowl, whisk them until they are firm and make peaks. Mix the flour into the creamy mixture and the fold in the egg whites a spoonful at a time, making sure not to squish the air out of them. Pour the mixture into your cake tin and bake for 35 mins at 170. When out and cool you can decorate them with the icing (mix ingredients with a little water).
To finish off I decorated it with Maltesers and baked it in a heart shaped mold from Ikea, I think it looks really pretty, what do you think?
