Let’s Talk Skinphoria Spa & Beauty

By Sparklingker @sparklingker

Weekends seem to fly by so quickly these days! A week ago, I was invited to Skinphoria Spa & Beauty to try out their famous DMK (Danné Montague-King) facial and Swedish massage. It’s been awhile since I got myself pampered so when I received an email from their lovely PR, I jumped at the chance. Skinphoria Spa & Beauty is located on Clarendon Street in South Melbourne. Services Skinphoria offers are facials, waxing, spray tans, IPL hair reduction, cosmetic injectables and much more.

A day before my appointment, I was sent a booking confirmation sms to my phone. Confirming my booking was so easy by replying with a letter ‘A’…yes a single letter. Easy peasy!

When I arrived at Skinphora at 10am last Saturday, I was greeted by Vesna and Ashley. Vesna is the owner of Skinphoria and Ashley turned out to be my beauty therapist, both have gorgeous flawless skin. I was given the usual first timer questionnaire to fill in about my skin type, medical condition and any skin concerns. After that was done, Ashley took me upstairs and showed me where I would be getting my facial.

As soon as you walk upstairs, the essential oils in the air and calming music, made me feel pretty relaxed and I hadn’t even began my treatment yet.

The treatment room was dimly lit with a super comfy bed. Ashley left me in the treatment room to get changed while she waited for me in the waiting area. She explained the DMK Enzyme Therapy facial treatment to me step by step. This facial is designed to get the skin functioning at optimum level by increasing circulation and removing dead skin cells. The treatment is customised for every client depending on their skin type. The facial started off with a face/neck cleanse, exoderma peel for 5 minutes and then the customised DMK masque. Ash told me the masque would dry hard and tight, similar to clay masques but 10x as tight. Usually for facials, I don’t like to talk much but I felt quite comfortable with Ash and kept chatting until the masque hardened. During that time, Ash gave me a very relaxing scalp and hand massage. The pressure was just right, not too firm or soft. After 40 minutes, Ash took off the DMK masque.

After my masque was done, Ash made me a herbal tea and directed me to where I was going to get my massage. My masseuse was Oly, she was very friendly and professional. I was booked in for their Swedish massage which aims to ease muscle tension, drains toxins and relax the body.

An unknown fact about me is I’m quite ticklish on my back, towards the left side near my ribs. When Oly massaged there, I cracked up laughing, although I did try to hold it in for a while. Happens every time, I secretly hope that one day I’ll grow out of it but not for now!

Here’s a photo of Vesna and I. When I came downstairs, Vesna packed a small bag filled with samples that I could try. Even gave me something for hubby too, so thoughtful.

My experience at Skinphoria Spa & Beauty was an absolute indulgence, and I’d highly recommend this spa. The best thing about this spa is it’s not on the pricey side as with most other inner-city spas. My massage for 60 minutes was only $89. Ashley and Oly were both friendly and professional. I left the spa glowing from the inside out!
