If you don’t have time to do it right, when will you have time to do it over?
John Wooden

We have an Audubon clock in our living room that whistles a different bird song at the top of each hour. I had gotten it at a yard sale and even though it doesn’t keep good time, it’s still fun to hear the bird calls throughout the day. Hey time is relative anyway, right?

I’m wondering though, if this clock might have contributed to my Black Copper Maran cockerel crowing at such an early age. Mr. (Mrs.) Bucket is about 5 weeks old and he has been practicing at a proper crow now for at least a week.

One of my readers commented yesterday that she was jealous, she hadn’t heard peep one out of her 11 week-old budding rooster.

Perhaps our young chick modeled his behavior on the hourly calls of our yard sale clock?

“It’s too bad that roosters don’t sound like Chickadees,” said my son who had been asking me about our bird clock this morning. “Then we’d love their song and think it was pretty.”

“One might say that all bird songs are pretty,” I replied in my most maternal, this is a teaching moment voice.

“Well then, I guess I not one of one,” he answered back as he went into the kitchen to make his breakfast toast.

As always, peaceful weekend everyone, health and happiness (and safety) to your flock.
