An event marking the legendary foundation of Korea was held at the purported Tomb of Tangun, the mythical founder of Korea, in Kangdong County, Pyongyang, on October 3 (Monday).  Attending the ceremony were Supreme People’s Assembly Presidium Vice President and Korean Social Democratic Party Central Committee Chairman Kim Yong Dae [Kim Yo’ng-tae], Democratic Front for the Reunification of Korea Secretariat Director and Chairman of the North Side’s Committee for Implementing the June 15 Joint Declaration Kim Wan Su [Kim Wan Su], Democratic Front for the Reunification of Korea Central Committee Presidium Member (and immediate past president of the DPRK Central Court) Pak Myong Chol [Pak Myo’ng-ch’o’l], Democratic Front for the Reunification of Korea Central Committee Presidium Member and Chairman of the North Headquarters of the Pan-national Alliance for Korea’s Reunification Choe Jin Su, functionaries of the Council for the Reunification of Tangun’s Nation, Pyongyang citizens and foreign guests.

A memorial service for Tangun was held.  Vice Chairman of the Council for Reunification of Tangun’s Nation Yun Jong Ho (Yun Cho’ng-ho) delivered a report in which he said that “President Kim Il Sung (Kim Il-so’ng) and leader Kim Jong Il (Kim Cho’ng-il) found out the ancestral father of the nation, who had been regarded as a mythical being, and demonstrated the good qualities of the Korean nation all over the world, adding their immortal exploits will be handed down through the age” and which “praised Marshal Kim Jong Un (Kim Cho’ng-u’n) for glorifying the DPRK as the world’s advanced and highly civilized nation and a thriving power true to the will of the great leaders.”

Yun, in the report, remarked that it is an “intolerable tragedy that our fellow compatriots are suffering pain and misfortune from national division by outside forces” and  noted “all Koreans should adhere to and thoroughly implement the immortal program for reunification: the three principles of national reunification, the June 15 joint declaration and the October 4 declaration.”  Yun ” called on all fellow compatriots to turn out in the efforts for accomplishing the national historic cause of building a reunified power, dignified and prosperous, on this land.”
