6.5 Le Sauvage, 60, Rue du Cherche Midi in the 6th, 06.88.88.48.23, closed Mondays (Metro: Saint-Placide) is the place I had intended to go yesterday but in my pain/pain-med fog confused with that in the 8th. What a difference! This is an unpretentious bar a vins/cave a manger with 12 covers, lotsa wine and a jolly host, Sebastien Leroy, who (like Pierre Jancou in his old Cremerie) orally spells out the offerings, doles out the charcuterie, cheese and a few hot dishes, washes up and makes sure your glass is full.
I missed my bus-stop, it started to rain, I was hurting and I was in foul mood. But Sebastien brightened up my day. I started with a bouillon of a joue de porc with lots of winter veggies (take heed Colette) that was perfect for the dreary afternoon (I passed on 6 Utah Beaches for 14 E and some lovely looking coques which may have been a mistake) and then moved on to a "small. please, really small" assortment of Normand cheeses that were room temperature and quite yummy.
My bill with a half-bottle of a lovely Loire (made near Blois), no bottled water or coffee, was 35 E.
Go? If you've shopped til you've dropped in this now incredible mecca of consumer goods, you couldn't find a better place to plotz.
