The meeting will be Tuesday, March 25 at 7 p.m. in the Park’s gymnasium community room, Stephen Sorensen Park at 16801 East Avenue P.

This group of community-minded citizens takes to the streets in a white Sheriff’s marked vehicle with their mission sheet in hand covering a number of spots. LLA residents can ask for their house to be checked on while on vacation or if in the hospital for instance. They check each address provided to them. The VOP go to the schools during the times when children are coming to and leaving from school.

Their vehicle and flashing yellow caution light bar adds to the safety of LLAker children. It also tends to slow down those vehicles that drive unsafely around the community’s schools. When there is a traffic control need, VOP respond to assist sworn officers who need to concentrate solely on the given situation. They have helped search for missing persons, photographed graffiti and reported a plethora of valuable information to the 114 radio car Deputies and Deputy John White who is the Resident Deputy for the community. That set of extra eyes and ears is a great help to the Sheriff’ and the community itself.

There is a pronounced need and use for additional VOP personnel. This meeting will demonstrate what the duties and responsibilities are and how others can join.
