When I was young and fresh and somewhat of a nubile young thing, I suffered major pimple breakouts like any other angsty teenager. I even had pimples (or acne) all the way down my neck. It was like love bites from very angry and blind mosquitoes. I remember piling on the pimple cream like mad, and it’s been the one staple beauty item in my skincare regime ever since I was 13 – pimple / anti-blemish cream.
I’ve gone through quite a lot of those, and the current one that I’m using is from La Roche-Posay, not to be confused with Ferrero Roche. Heh. Lame, I know.

Now I’ve been through quite a number of pimple creams to know the various types of effects you can get. There are those that dry up your pimples (Mario Badescu, Differin), and there are those that “ripen” them so that you can get a good “explosion” when you burst them. You should also know to apply different types when the pimple is at different stages of “blooming” or “ripening”.
- The white cream is not too thick and is easily absorbed.
- Don’t overapply it though – there are times when I get overly enthusiastic and apply and thick layer. Uh-uh, no no. It just ends up caking.
- I usually apply this pimple cream when my pimple is about to ripen – the red-tipped types that you know will yield a good pus-filled bump in a couple of days. This Effaclar AI hastens the process.
- It will either make the pus accumulate into a small yellow bead for easy squeezing, or ripen into a pus volcano for easy bursting. I know, I know, I should be doing such things, but I have itchy fingers.
- If like me, you can’t resist the urge, one of the best ways is to apply it directly onto an open wound (ie after you’ve squeezed a pimple) – there’s direct contact between the inside of the pimple and the cream, so it works better.
- Again I do not advocate that you be squeezing or trying to extract pimples yourself.
- However, I will not apply it when the pimple is red, angry and hard – it will just result in the internal pus becoming harder and almost impossible to burst.
- It’s good for application beneath makeup – do not apply over makeup as it’ll somehow blend with your makeup and cake into some floury white thang, kinda like your pores just tried to sniff cocaine.
- If you’ve got a huge event the following day, avoid applying this. As I said, it expedites the pimple ripening process, so there’s a high chance that you’ll have a red swollen spot the next day. However, if you’ve got nothing on, you can try applying this – it’s less drying than the other ermmm drying types.
I wouldn’t say to buy or not to buy this item – it’s purely dependent on your personal choice of how you like to combat your blemishes
