It’s time for another round up of whats new in my kitchen this month! As usual, there a few new products to have a look at, a new local artisan producer that we’ve discovered and some subscription box goodies!
NEW COVENT GARDEN SOUPS
Not a new producer, but a much loved brand. This summer New Covent Garden, to celebrate summer and National Gardening week have released some new flavours and are giving people the chance to get their hands on some free seeds, with the idea of planting and growing the seeds in the left over cartons. I think this is a lovely idea and great way to try and encourage people to starting growing their own salad in a small, family friendly way! There’s tips and tricks on the website and the cartons give you all you need to know to claim your seeds
I tried the Petit Pois & Mint flavor as well as the Chicken Lemon & Tarragon, both of which were lovely. I also love the sound of the Gazpacho so am going to hunt that one down in the shops.
The people at New Covent Garden were also lovely enough to send me a little gardening kit to go along with the soups and to start my sowing, and I look forward to planting and watching my salad grow!
NANDOS CRISPS
These appeared in this months Degustabox. Only tried the chicken flavor so far and wasn’t blown away, but interested to try the other flavours as well.
COAST AND GLEN
We signed up to Coast and Glen fish boxes for the first time this month. They deliver fresh fish right to your door – in the sea one day, packed chilled and couriered to your door the next. They offer various schemes and sizes of box, but seem really good value for what you get. You can’t choose your fish but can list your dislikes so you won’t be getting any pesky squid if you don’t like it! (Lee!)
CORKERS CRISPS
Corkers crisps were set up in 2010 and are made in the fenlands in Cambridgeshire from potatoes grown on the family farm, the factory is also located there and all the crisps are hand-cooked on site. They have recently won Potato Grower of the Year and been named Best Regional Supplier by Waitrose as well as a host of Great Taste Awards!
They have some interesting flavours like Duck & Hoisin amongst more traditional favourites like Sea Salt & Cider Vinegar.
The crisps are currently stocked at National Trust properties, the Tate and selected Waitrose stores.
TINY SEEDS
We discovered this producer whilst at the Spring Market in DIgbeth a few weeks ago. The sound of these spiced and pickled fruits really piqued our interest – something we hadn’t really seen before. We tried a few sample before snapping up a set of mini jars – Blueberries, Pear, Red Cabbage and Peach. They went SO well with cheese!
All worth a try (possibly bar the Nandos crisps…) if you see them in a shop near you, or fancy signing up to a new subsciprtion box!
